Profile

Bryan Overstreet is a conservation agronomist with Purdue Extension and the Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative (CCSI), where he coordinates soil health work across northern Indiana. He works directly with farmers to put the four soil health principles to work on their own fields: keep living roots in the ground, minimize disturbance, keep the soil covered, and build diversity. His focus is cover crops and no-till. Raised on a farm near Waveland, Indiana, Bryan has worked with no-till farmers for more than 30 years. He began as an agronomist for a local agricultural cooperative, then spent nearly 18 years as Purdue Extension's agriculture and natural resources educator in Jasper County, where he led field days, private pesticide applicator recertification, and drone certification trainings. He moved into his conservation role in 2023. He also serves on the Purdue On The Farm leadership team, helping Extension educators scout crops and set up demonstration plots on working farms. Bryan was named Indiana Certified Crop Adviser of the Year in 2018 and received the National Association of County Agricultural Agents Distinguished Service Award in 2023. On Soil Health Exchange, he answers questions on cover crops, no-till, weed management, and soil conservation in Midwest row-crop systems.

Practical experience: More than 30 years working alongside no-till farmers: cover crop selection, establishment, and management; no-till systems; crop scouting; and on-farm demonstration plots with Purdue On The Farm.
