Valentina Rubio, PhD

Dr. Valentina Rubio is a soil scientist at the National Institute of Agricultural Research of Uruguay (INIA), where her work focuses on how agricultural management shapes soil function, nutrient supply, crop productivity, and resilience to climate variability across diverse production systems. She earned her Ph.D. from Cornell University, where her research examined the connections among management practices, soil health, and crop productivity in collaboration with the team behind the Cornell Comprehensive Assessment of Soil Health framework. Her published work spans soil organic carbon dynamics, crop–pasture rotations, and the productivity costs of soil degradation. She has also led national training on soil carbon modeling for Uruguay’s Ministry of Agriculture. On Soil Health Exchange, Dr. Rubio brings deep expertise in soil health assessment, carbon and nitrogen cycling, soil organic carbon modeling, and crop–pasture systems. Her work helps connect rigorous soil science with practical, management-focused decisions that support resilient and productive agricultural landscapes.
