Find the exact program. Ask for its official name, administering agency, current notice, and funding purpose. Follow an independently found agency website rather than a link supplied only by the seller.
Separate the funding from the service. Is this a grant, a repayable loan, or cost-share? Ask what any consultant fee buys, when work will be delivered, and whether the service is optional. Paying a consultant does not secure an award.
Check registration claims. Grants.gov registration is free. A paid service should describe the additional work it provides, not present its fee as a required government registration charge.
Pause on pressure or guaranteed awards. Requests for payment to release a government grant, particularly by gift card, wire transfer, or cryptocurrency, are warning signs. Never share banking or login details with someone who contacts you unexpectedly. See the FTC’s grant-scam guidance.

A consultancy fee by itself does not prove fraud. Compare the written claims with the program and seek an independent agency explanation. SHE’s review can identify inconsistencies and unresolved questions; it cannot certify a provider as safe.

Already sent money?

Contact your bank or payment provider promptly, explain the suspected fraud, and ask whether the payment can be reversed. Keep the offer, messages, invoices, and receipts. Report it to the FTC. Recovery is not guaranteed; do not wait for a paid SHE review to take these steps. FTC guidance.
