Practical Farmers of Iowa

Funding: Up to $4,000 dollar-for-dollar savings match • Two-year matched-savings program. Participants save up to $4,000 in a dedicated farm savings account over two years; on completion PFI matches those savings dollar for dollar up to $4,000, to be spent on purchasing a farm asset. The program also pairs each participant with a farmer mentor and includes business planning support.
Who it is for: producer, Beginning farmers or farm operators with fewer than seven years of farming experience who live in Iowa or farm in Iowa or an adjoining state, and who hold active Practical Farmers of Iowa membership.

North Central Region SARE (NCR-SARE)

Funding: $15,000 individual; $30,000 team of two or more farmers/ranchers • Producer-led on-farm research, demonstration, and education projects lasting up to 23 months. Funding: $250–$2,000 per individual, depending on relationship and qualifying training • Base tiers: up to $1,500 for $50,000+ loan clients; $500 for smaller-loan, tax/accounting or next-generation clients; $250 for non-clients or crop-insurance-only clients. Qualifying multi-year farm training may add $500, up to $2,000 per individual. Generally $1,500 per household except stated exceptions; $5,000 per farm operation. Redeem within 12 months using paid receipts. Equipment and operating expenses excluded.

Farm Rescue Planting, Haying, Harvest, Hay Hauling & Livestock Feeding Assistance

Farm Rescue

Funding: In-kind services at no cost (equipment and volunteer crew supplied) • Not a cash grant. Farm Rescue supplies sponsored equipment and a volunteer crew (usually two to five people) to plant, hay, harvest, haul hay, or feed livestock at no cost to the qualifying family; a farmer's own equipment may be used if necessary. Emergency 'Operation Hay Lift' hay hauling is mobilized after disasters such as the 2026 Nebraska wildfires.
Who it is for: producer, Farm and ranch families in Farm Rescue's service states who have experienced a major injury, illness, or natural disaster and need help completing planting, haying, harvest, commodity hauling, or livestock feeding.

Farms Fund (lease-to-own farmland access)

The Conservation Fund

Funding: No cash grant - subsidized farmland access via a 3-5 year lease-to-own pathway • No cash grant. The Conservation Fund acquires at-risk farmland near growing metros, places permanent agricultural protections on it, leases it to a farmer, and provides a patient pathway to affordable ownership within three to five years. Participating farmers also get support identifying and applying for farm business tools and federal programs, access to new markets, and time to invest in farm infrastructure.
Who it is for: producer, Farmers ready to expand their farm business, reach scale to meet market demand, and work toward land ownership in the Atlanta, Chicago, or Charlotte NC metro foodsheds; farmers outside those markets may still submit the survey for future expansion.

Funding: Up to 60% for Conservation Practices Cost-Share; local SWCDs set practice rates and caps. • Landowners must be SWCD cooperators with an approved conservation plan; land erosion must exceed 1.5 times tolerable soil loss. Structural and some management practices must be maintained at least 10 years. Streambank proposals require local SWCD sponsorship.
