Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA)

Funding: $200 education stipend plus MOFGA-paid mentorship (in-kind value) • Two-year beginning-farmer business support package rather than a cash grant. Year 1: a $200 educational stipend for classes, workshops, conferences, or books. Year 2: paid mentorship, where MOFGA compensates a mentor of the participant's choosing. Also includes supplier discounts (FEDCO, Organic Growers Supply, Johnny's Selected Seeds), free access to shared farm equipment, free technical advice from MOFGA Agricultural Services staff, business planning help, farm visits, and free admission to MOFGA events.

Soil Health Benchmark Study

Pasa Sustainable Agriculture

Funding: Three fully subsidized Cornell Comprehensive Assessment of Soil Health tests (in-kind, no cash grant) • Not a cash grant - a direct in-kind service. Research collaborators receive three fully subsidized soil health tests from the Cornell Soil Health Lab, a detailed benchmark report comparing their soil test outcomes and management practices to peer farms, and connection to a farmer learning community. Running since 2016 with data from 200+ farms and more than 150 farmer research collaborators; partners include the Cornell Soil Health Laboratory, farmOS, Future Harvest / Million Acre Challenge, Maine Farmland Trust, OpenTEAM, Penn State Extension, Rodale Institute, and Stroud Water Research Center.
Who it is for: producer, Vegetable, pastured livestock, and row crop farmers in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic who agree to participate as farmer research collaborators, sharing field management and soil data in exchange for subsidized testing and benchmarking.

For Farmers Movement

Funding: $500 - $10,000 • Three tiers: Foundational Grants of $500-$1,000 for infrastructure, equipment, supplies, innovation, or making up for a loss (a minimum of 100 awarded); one Land Stewardship Grant of $5,000 for a farm committed to caring for the land in ways that strengthen soil, protect natural resources, and support long-term farm and ecosystem health; and at least one Transformational Grant of $10,000 for a farm project with profound impact on farm operations and community. All tiers use the same application, and applicants for the Land Stewardship and Transformational grants must also apply for a Foundational grant.
Who it is for: producer, Commercial farmers located in the 50 US states, Washington DC, or US territories whose operation sells most of its products; homesteads and animal sanctuaries are excluded, and past For Farmers grant recipients may reapply alone or with up to two partner farms.
